Centre for Social Research [CSR]
The Centre which was established in the year 1999, has been conceived as an attempt to go beyond traditional academic structures and to provide more space for social research and evaluation studies. The center currently is under the leadership of the Dept. of Social Work, Christ University. The center is closely linked to the Library in the University which can be a huge support for researches. The library has a good collection of social and behavioral science literature. It has excellent research and conference facilities, an extensive computer network for word processing and other applications including internet access and audio-visual materials.
The Centre looks forward to associate with academicians, research scholars, voluntary organizations and government departments interested in social research

OBJECTIVES

* To conduct research studies on various levels for the benefit of scholars and public on social, psychological and cultural phenomenon of contemporary relevance.
* To conduct psychosocial intervention based researches on empirical grounds for the service of the human kind especially who is socially and psychologically in need.
* To contribute to the postgraduate Social Work program by involving students in research projects through assistantships and other work assignments to inculcate research habits and entry in the world of inquiry.
* To facilitate greater intellectual exchange amongst the social and behavioural sciences faculty, development professionals and research scholars through seminars, workshops and lectures.
* To function as a resource centre which could conduct capacity building workshop for the professionals, paraprofessionals, volunteers who are providing psychosocial care in hospital, community as well as institutional settings.
* To disseminate information to the public on required information for awareness building

Baseline survey for corporate social responsibility activities In Bangalore rural from Indian oil Corporation Limited, Bangalore.

On going researches

· Assessment on Selection criteria of “Bhagyalakshmi” scheme of Government of Karnataka in Mandya District, funded by Dept. of Women and Child Welfare, Govt. of Karnataka, under the investigation of Dr. Sheeja Karalam, Dr. Bino Thomas and Dr. Hemalata through Centre for Social Research, Christ University. Duration of Project: September 1-30, 2011.

· ‘Evaluation research of UJJAWALA Scheme’, Dept. of Women and Child Welfare, Govt. of Karnataka. under the investigation of Dr. Bino Thomas, Dr. Sheeja Karalam and Dr. Hemalata through Centre for Social Research, Christ University. Duration of the Project: September 2011-September 2012.

Study Programmes

· The Centre for Social Research offered a certificate programme in Cultural Analysis in association with the Centre for Study of Culture and Society, Bangalore.

Seminars/ Workshops held

·  International Cultural Studies workshop on Culture/Political Theory/Activism in association with Centre for Study of Culture and Society, Bangalore. This workshop had participants from Singapore, Malayasia, South Korea, Japan, Taipei, Thailand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

· Gender Sensitive Development Planning for Development professionals

· Rethinking Social Sciences, in association with Centre for Study of Culture and Society, Bangalore
